What People Say About Us

Review of Dean Hannotte's
We Knew Paul

by Tom Steele

The Ninth Street Center has just published a new book about their indomitable founder, Paul Rosenfels, a revolutionary New York therapist and writer whose theories of human development continue to inspire and motivate hundreds of people, including, hopefully, lots of therapists. Rosenfels' theories are sort of New Gestalt, highly result-oriented therapies that set out to deepen the human ability to love and to assume greater responsibilities in society. We Knew Paul: Conversations with Friends and Students of Paul Rosenfels, edited by Dean Hannotte, gathers the reflections of eleven men and women about the man Gay Magazine referred to as "the Giant of the New Free Gay Culture." Ninth Street's Publications Coordinator, Robert Fink, explains that "Hannotte does for psychology what Mendel did for genetics: he breaks the code. This book is for everyone," he continues. "My straight office mate loves it." We Knew Paul is a 257-page handsome trade paperback, available in better bookstores for $9.95, or from the Ninth Street Center, now at 151 First Avenue, Suite 25, NYC 10003, for $9.95 plus $1.00.
